The Prague Civil Society Centre has been added to the Russian government’s list of “undesirable organisations” under a law that human rights watchdogs have called abusive and a tool to silence activists.
The law targets Russian citizens who fight against corruption, promote the rule of law, protect the environment and support the most vulnerable in society, and aims to muzzle independent journalists, bloggers and others who hold the powerful to account. We believe that courageous and creative civil society makes any country a better place to live for its people, and we remain committed to supporting civil society across Eastern Europe and Central Asia.
