The Prague Civil Society Centre is a non-profit organisation that supports and empowers civil society and independent media in Eastern Europe, the Caucasus, and Central Asia. Designed to operate in the harshest of conditions, we do everything we can to support those working towards more open, free, and democratic futures – no matter how far away that may seem today. We believe that a vibrant civil society and independent media are key to this. We work to ensure that activists, journalists, and changemakers of all kinds, many of whom work under the most repressive regimes, get the support they need to push for change, be it grants, capacity building, or connections.

 

About the role:
As a programme officer, you’ll support the Eastern Europe and/or South Caucasus regional section and be responsible for the operational management (including the administration) of a programme and grant portfolio. Under the supervision of the senior member of the team, you’ll ensure smooth implementation of grants throughout the entire grantmaking cycle whilst developing a strong relationship with grantees. You will also have a chance to contribute to the strategic planning of the portfolio with operational insights.

 

Key responsibilities:

  • Programme implementation: Ensuring day-to-day operation of the portfolio, including managing the budget, organisation of the selection process, and risk monitoring.
  • Grants management: Contracting, processing payments, monitoring the implementation of grants, reviewing narrative and financial reports, and evaluating results. Regularly updating the grant-making database to ensure that all data is timely and properly stored.
  • Partnership building: Acting as a point of contact for grantees, providing guidance on procedural, operational, and reporting requirements, and fostering strong relationships with partners.
  • Expertise: Building programme-specific expertise and sharing it within the organisation to strengthen cross-programme collaboration internally as well as the Centre’s outreach efforts, including reporting to our donors and contributing to fundraising efforts.
  • Documentation and recordkeeping: Ensuring comprehensive and audit-ready files are maintained, up to date, and available for audit purposes.
  • Performing other tasks related to grant implementation and communication with partners.

 

Core competencies:

  • A minimum of two years of experience in programme, project, or grant management, preferably in the civil society, media development, or international cooperation fields
  • Diligent and accurate approach to work, attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently and prioritise tasks
  • Proficiency in English (spoken and written), knowledge of additional relevant regional language is an asset
  • Experience with contextual risk assessment and understanding of specifics of work with partners operating in harsh environments
  • Strong computer skills, particularly in MS Word and Excel
  • A team player eager to support colleagues and the organisation’s mission
  • Adaptable and able to effectively manage change
  • Candidate should be based in Czechia, or have access to the EU labour market

The salary is based on the Prague Civil Society Centre’s salary scale, with an expected gross monthly range of CZK 48,000 – 59,000 for a full-time position (40 hours per week), depending on skills and experience.
